Ufi Charitable Trust sells Ufi Ltd and learndirect

5th October 2011

On Wednesday 5 October, the Ufi Charitable Trust (UCT) announced the sale of Ufi Limited, the company behind the learndirect brand, to private equity house LDC for a sale price of the order of £40 million.

Through the learndirect brand, which was launched in 2000, Ufi Ltd has helped more than three million people use the internet to gain skills and qualifications in many areas including maths, English and IT. In the last decade, it has also worked with thousands of businesses.

Alastair Clark, NIACE Programme Manager, said:

“The learndirect method of online learning has become established as an important part of the adult learning landscape. It offers individual flexible study which has proved to be very effective for some learners. NIACE hopes that under the new ownership learndirect will continue to strive for the highest standards of learner support, whilst ensuring accessible courses for all, especially learners with the poorest skills.”
