Learning and Work Institute are pleased to launch our new collection of essays “All change. Where next for apprenticeships?”

You are invited to the launch of a new collection of essays “All change: where next for apprenticeships?”

Wide ranging reforms to apprenticeships, including the Apprenticeship Levy, have now been in place for more than a year. But the number of apprenticeship starts has fallen, and there is debate about the causes of this and whether the government will meet its target of three million starts by 2020. Our focus is on how to ensure high quality apprenticeships that everyone has a fair chance to access.

This essay collection looks at the impact of reforms on quality and access – and identifies where further action is needed. It includes voices from across the apprenticeship world, featuring contributions from a range of writers including:

  • Jeremy Crook, Chief Executive, BTEG
  • Joe Dromey, Senior Research Fellow, IPPR
  • Dr Carole Easton OBE, Chief Executive, Young Women’s Trust
  • Mark Gale, Policy and Campaigns Manager, Young Women’s Trust
  • Dexter Hutchings, Apprentice, Edge Foundation
  • Ben Kinross, Apprentice Engagement Officer, National Society of Apprentices
  • Jo Maher, Principal and Chief Executive of Boston College
  • Dr Julie Nugent, Director of Skills and Productivity, West Midlands Combined Authority
  • Annie Peate, Education and Skills Policy Advisor , Federation of Small Businesses
  • Tom Richmond, Senior Research Fellow, Reform
  • Jan Tregelles, Chief Executive, Mencap

The launch event will be hosted by Rt Hon Robert Halfon MP, Chair of the Education Select Committee, MP for Harlow and previously, Minister of State Department of Education Apprenticeships and Skills. It will feature contributions from Gordon Marsden MP, Shadow Skills Minister, along with a number of essay authors and be followed by an open debate.

Join us to debate and  share your views on the apprenticeship reforms and where to go next.
