Skills Funding Agency to commission in-work support for Work Programme participants following Inclusion report26th November 2014
The Skills Funding Agency (SFA) has released a memo to Work Programme providers outlining new provision for in-work support funded by the European Social Fund.
The memo states that the ‘SFA provision will ensure that participants are given the right level of skills support that they need to improve their chances of sustaining employment and progressing in their career, including, where appropriate, starting an Apprenticeship’. This will include regular progress reviews, exit interviews and the tracking of participants.
Inclusion welcomes the announcement, which follows our Work in Progress report published last year. The report recommended that in-work skills support should be commissioned and targeted at those on the Work Programme and found that less than a third of providers offer in-work training, largely due to the way that programmes are structured and funded. Strong evidence on the effectiveness of such interventions, suggests that this initiative may improve the quality of service for participants on the Work Programme.
